Jimi Hendrix featured on KILR FM as a Power Album

It's been a little bit since the last blog.

With some inspiration from our latest DJ, Peaceman Pete, and our longtime DJ, Howlin' Wolfman, we decided to add a new Power Album in rotation all the way back from the 60's.

It's the huge, debut album from Jimi Hendrix -- Are You Experienced. Now you can be experienced by all the great music from this album and hear tracks you'd never hear on other stations.

Tune us in and get experienced!

June Additions: KILR Kidz Klub, Sunday Sabbath Block, Hippin' 60's

Tons of updates to KILR FM since the last time I posted!

The first new addition is with my daughter, Lucy Marie. You may have heard her on my "Super Radio Show". She now has her own show on Saturday and Sunday mornings at 7am PST called "The KILR Kidz Klub". It's a one hour show featuring kid friendly music from cartoons, Disney and other family movies, children shows, children pop icons, and the Kidz Bop Kids. It's a neat show, and a good portion of these songs only play during her show. So tell your kids about it, tune in, and get in touch with your "inner child". :-)

Our next new addition is The Sunday Sabbath Block. Sunday should be a day of rest and relaxation from all the other crazy days of the week, and now you can tune in to KILR FM and have uplifiting music to listen to. Starting at 8am PST after The KILR Kidz Klub, you will hear an hour each of music from the 1920's and then the 1930's. We then take a break at 10am, and we play a six hour stretch of nothing but Christian music which covers Rock, Gospel, Country, Hip-Hop, and Contemporary Classics. Afterwards at 4pm, we go back to the past and pick up where we left off from the morning. We play an hour of the 1940's followed by an hour of the 1950's when Rock 'N' Roll was born! It's a fantastic day to hear music from a long time ago and then hear how it progressed over the decades! Not only that, but you've got spiritually uplifting music to listen to for six hours that we don't play on any other day! You'll be amazed by the Christian music too, because it's quite enjoyable and doesn't feel like you are sitting in church all day. Don't forget that we end the night off with Kowgirl Katie and her KILR Kountry at 6pm!

Our final new addition is of a new DJ who comes to us from Nashville, TN. He may not have an accent, but he is totally laid back. Welcome, DJ Peaceman Pete! He'll be doing a one hour show four times a week called "The Hippin' 60's". What's neat about this show is you get to hear everything from the 1960's whether it is the early part of the decade or the latter part of the decade. The 60's had two different styles of Rock, which you don't normally hear blended together. Not so on Pete's show, plus he'll share his own memories of the 60's with you! You can check him out at 12pm PST on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Why not Wednesday? Well, I have this tiny little radio show that runs for a few hours that day. Besides, Pete likes having a day off in the middle of the week. :-D

We got more stuff planned in the coming months, so make us your favorite radio station and grow with us!

Two new albums added to our Album Power Tracks

It's time to start switching out some of the albums we've been featuring in our Album Power Tracks.

We've removed "Phoenix" by Asia and "Plastic Beach" by Gorillaz, but only temporary. Since we had another album featured by each of those groups, the rotation programming wasn't helping with the albums. We'll bring them back once we take the other two albums down from those groups.

For now, we are replacing those two albums with:

1) "Born This Way (Special Edition)" by Lady Gaga -- Here's a chance to hear what her new album sounds like. Is it any good, or was there a reason why it sold for 99 cents at Amazon on the release day?

2) "Living River" by Rawlins Cross -- Demonslover and I have played this group on our radio show over the past 5 years, so now we can pick one of their albums and feature it on the station and see what else this Canadian Celtic band has to offer. It's a great band, and I don't know how many stations out there would play them.

New Show! -- Starrfoxx's Latest Billboard Hits!

I'm a little late on this blog, but I wanted to post a quick note about my new show on Wednesday afternoons called "Starrfoxx's Latest Billboard Hits". This will be two hours of music all pulled from the Top 10 Billboard Charts such as The Hot 100, Rock, Country, R&B, Pop, Dance, and even a little Latin.

Now, I won't be able to play ALL of the songs in the Top 10 charts, but we will make a point to play all Top 10 songs in the Hot 100 chart since that is the major chart that Billboard has had in its long history.

I came up with the idea of this show since we made some changes to the power tracks. Before, we used to play the latest hits as power tracks that were played every 3-4 hours. Although that was cool at first, it quickly got tiring since the songs were played over and over again. Our station is about variety, and that to me wasn't much variety when you hear the latest songs every 3-4 hours. That's why we changed it to the new "Album Power Tracks".

I still wanted a place to play those songs, so those of you who are interested could hear what the latest and hottest songs are on the charts right now. Thus, my new show. I'll be flying solo on this show (no Demi), and you can hear me spin the latest tunes on Wednesdays at 4pm Pacific / 7pm Eastern. This will get you all pumped up and going before DJ Shepster comes in to do "The Killer 70's Show".

5/24 Dedication Show to Dallus Merrill

On Tuesday night, 5/24/11, at 6pm Arizona time, tune in for a special show dedicated to my nephew, Dallus Merrill. Dallus was hit by a car and lost his life when he fell off his motor-scooter into oncoming traffic after losing control of it. Demonslover and I will be sharing some memories we have of our nephew and be playing some of Dallus' favorite music. If you would like to dedicate a song to Dallus and share a special memory about him, then please message me here or on Facebook and we'll share it on the show. The show will run for a little more than an hour, however, it has the potential for running longer depending on the number of dedications and messages we receive from Dallus' friends and family members.

If we have a huge turn out, then it is possible that we'll air it the following week. Howlin' Wolfman will return, but for now you can still catch him on Thursdays at 10am Pacific.

Album Power Tracks!!!

We’ve made a serious new addition to the station which I think is really going to help define our uniqueness and make us one of the best stations to listen to for music variety. We call it “Album Power Tracks”!

On the Loudcaster Server controls, we can specify certain tracks to be played as “Power Tracks”. These tracks will play more often than others, similar to what you hear on regular radio stations. Originally we had marked the latest hits on the Billboard Charts as Power Tracks, so that you could hear the new stuff that is out. It was a great idea at first, but then it was getting very repetitive and not all of the new songs out were all that good. (Some sucked, to put it lightly.) Now we’ll still play the latest music, but it won’t be every 3-4 hours in high rotation anymore. We’ll let the regular radio stations overplay and kill those songs.

So, we needed a new idea to replace the power tracks. I love album tracks, because there are so many good albums out there with fantastic tracks that you never hear on the radio. How fun would it be to explore tracks from 10 albums each month mixed in with all-time favorites from the 1920’s to the latest hits? This will be less repetitive than what we had before, a lot more interesting, and we can keep it fresh every month by replacing albums with new ones. We can play albums that are new, old, and from a variety of genres. I think we’ll stay away from “Greatest Hits” albums, since that defeats the purpose of “deep cuts”. :-D

So “album deep cuts” are going to be our new Power Tracks that are heard every 3-4 hours, which is why we called them “Album Power Tracks”. You’ll know an album track when you hear it, because we’ve got a special ID that plays right before it. And it won’t be as repetitive as you might think. 10 full albums with tracks that are played every 3-4 hours, keeping in mind that our music rotation is programmed to not play the same artist or album within a 4 hour period. It’ll probably take you a good month or more just to hear all the Power Tracks being played! By then, we’ll start replacing those albums with something new to check out. This will constantly keep the music fresh, new, and exciting – and you’ll still get to hear your all-time favorite hits!

Now that is just plain KILLER! And here are the 10 albums we’ll be exploring for the next month or so:

1) “21” by Adelle (A #1 album on the Billboard Charts with the hit song “Rolling in the Deep”. She has a great voice, and I would love to hear what else she’s got on this album!)

2) “Omega” by Asia (Well known for “Heat of the Moment”, this 80’s band is still around and this is their latest offering.)

3) “Phoenix” by Asia (This came out a few years ago with the band reuniting with original singer.)

4) “Tug of War” by Paul McCartney (This was a huge seller for the former Beatle and featured the hit “Ebony and Ivory”. Paul really shows how talented he is with his music and lyrics on this album!)

5) “Plastic Beach” by Gorillaz (The virtual band released this album a few years ago and it has the single “On Melancholy Hill”.)

6) “The Fall” by Gorillaz (The latest album by the virtual band with the single “Revolving Doors”. You don’t hear too much of this group on the radio with the exception of the songs “Feel Good, Inc.” and “Clint Eastwood”.)

7) “All You Need Is Now” by Duran Duran (The hit band from the 80’s is back with a new album and they are attempting to bring back their style that made them famous in the 80’s.)

8) “The Beginning” by The Black Eyed Peas (This rap group has gone into an interesting direction with their music and style. I like how they are trying to do something different and fresh.)

9) "Move Like This" by The Cars. This was just released on May 11! The original lead singer, Ric Ocasek, is back with the band and they sound GREAT!

10) “If You’re Going Through Hell” by Rodney Atkins (Hey, we can’t forget Country! Rodney has a great lyrical style with his music, especially the hit “Cleaning This Gun” which all fathers with daughters can relate to. Let’s see what his other stuff sounds like!)

KILR Update, May 6!

It's been a little bit since I posted on the blog, but I wanted to give all of you listeners an update on what's happening with in the KILR Universe.

Demonslover and I are working on six more new shows, and they are coming together quite nicely. There is no estimated date of completion at this time, since we're taking our time to make them good shows. Rest assured, though, they should come out in another month or so and will be worth the wait.

I've heard word from Radio Raymond that he's going to be revamping his show quite a bit to include long time R&B favorites and all-time hip-hop classics. He says he won't focus as much on the new material that is out, unless he really likes it or gets requests for it.

Our latest DJ, Katie, is putting together some more fun country shows. She's hoping to get a Facebook account (I'm suprised she didn't have one yet) set up soon to communicate more directly with listeners of the KILR Kountry Show.

Wolfman is chilling out, but he did say he's planning on a couple more shows too.

Shepster advised me that he's finishing up work on a few more Killer 70 and 80 shows. After that, he's going to go back to restoring some of the old, classic KILR FM shows from the station's past.

Finally, my daughter Lucy will soon have her own show! She and I still have some work to do on it, but we hope to have that airing in another week or so.

We should have another show in addition to Lucy's premiering this month, but we are keeping that under wraps until we have a better idea on how soon it'll be done.

So, great things are coming in the Land of KILR! Check back with us and continue to tune in!

KILR FM goes Kountry!

Ok, it won't be completely. But we are excited about our newest DJ to join the KILR Krew, and she's going to be hosting a Country show every Sunday night starting on May 1st. Kowgirl Katie Jackson joins us from Amarillo, TX, and she's bringing her stockpile of Country music and a heart full of love to share with all of you. Join her at 6pm Pacific / 9pm Eastern as she takes you into the Heartland of America. It'll make for a nice end to your Sunday!

On the May Horizon

With the excitement of having Howlin' Wolfman back with us, I wanted to tell everyone that we have more exciting things to come that we are working on and people that we are negotiating with. I can't go into details just yet, but I will once we have official confirmation.

I can say that in May, we hope to have two more exciting programs running. We are currently in negotiations with another potential DJ who may be joining us in May. I can't say more than that, but it's hard to contain the excitement we have at KILR FM! Rest assured, though, that we have some huge goals ahead of us and many things planned. So stick with us through the excitement as we rebuild a great radio station.

Rocks, Metals, and Wolves

Great news, folks! We've been waiting eagerly for the past few weeks to announce this, but now we have official confirmation. We have a new DJ starting next week, and what's better is that he is one of our returning DJ's from KILR FM around 1990. Please welcome, Howlin' Wolfman!

Wolfman will be doing the same type of show he did in the old days. Straight-up Rock. It's great to have him back with us in our new digital form, and he'll be starting his show next Tuesday on 4/26 at 6pm Pacific / 9pm Eastern and every following Tuesday. If you love rock, then you definitely don't want to miss his show!

A classic show from 1985 has been restored!

DJ Shepster has just informed me that another "Klassik KILR FM" episode has been completed, and this one dates back to March of 1985. He played some of it to me, and I was simply amazed by the editing that was done that really helped to clean up the original audio files.

DJ Shepster will be presenting these restored, classic episodes starting on Saturday, April 16 at 6pm PST / 9pm EST.

More hits and a new message board!

While DJ Shepster works on a lot of the programming aspects of KILR FM, I have been busy with all the internet grunt work.

I've been busy building a brand new message board for the radio station, so that everyone can chat with each other and listeners can join in and participate. I've also been working on some website updates, so that we now have links leading to our blog here and also to the new forum.

The promotional projects that I've been working hard on have been very positive. Yesterday we had over 60 new hits to the website, and today we have already gone over 100 new hits! Granted, not all of those visitors are tuning in. The point is that they are VISITING us. We ARE getting our name out there! We've broken some new records in our peak listeners this week, so it's just a matter of time until we get more dedicated listeners.

It's great news, because that's what we want. Listeners! We want the interaction with real people out there, and we want to fill that "niche" for people who are looking for a true, variety station.

One Vault show completed!

Awesome news! DJ Shepster has put the finishing touches on the very first Klassik KILR Vault show, and we hope to have that on the air soon. I've been told that he's nearing the completion of another old show from the past, and he's begun work on a third one!

Soon we'll get to hear what this radio station used to sound like back in the old days!

Schedule additions and programming

I've made some additions to the schedule, but chances are these won't be anything written in stone. For now, our evening programs are also on during the daytime to give everyone a chance to listen to my show, Shepster's 70's & 80's shows, and Radio Raymond.

Programming is an "art" all on it's own. The evening programs will most likely remain how they are, but the daytime ones may move around to different days and times as I try to find what works and where. The idea is to make the station interesting during the peak times that people tune into us, so that they'll want to come back and see what else we have.

That's why I mentioned that programming is an art. That's why TV Networks will move stuff all around to see what works and what doesn't. At times they don't know when to quit when they have a good thing. A lot of times, it's just "trial and error".

Go here: http://killer-radio.webs.com/killerkalendar.htm

We still have some reserved spots up. One is for a new DJ that should be premiering this month, and the others are going to be dedicated to the Klassik KILR FM vault and another new program I am getting together.

Our banner ads are working!

We finally have people clicking on our banner ads that we have floating out there on the internet! This is awesome news, because it's just another form of getting our name out there in hopes of drawing people in to our little world at KILR FM. I believe we have a great station with a lot of potential, but we just need to get our name out there so that people know we are here. It's a challenge, but we're working on it!

Klassik KILR FM: Volume 1 #1 coming soon!

Today, work was done putting the pieces together on the very first show that aired on the radio station in 1984. Back then it was called "Radio 1990" with the call letters KKRY, also known as "K.R.Y. Under The Sun".

DJ Shepster will be putting the finishing touches on the production and remix of this very old show, and he'll be the one presenting these classic shows in the next week or so. Soon we'll get to hear the beginnings of the radio station and how it evolved into what it is today.

KILR Promoting and Production

Today on the KILR Blog,

I've been doing quite a lot of work for my internet radio station at KILR FM. One important piece of work is marketing and promotion. We've got to get our name out there! We want to let people know we exist and invite them to come to our side of the universe and listen to all the great variety of music that we have to offer! So how do we do that?

Banner Ads, for one. I already subscribed to one service, but today I subscribed to a couple more. I've got some animated banner ads about KILR FM already out there, so with two more services working for us it will help get our name out there further. Another way are the old fashioned webrings. Personally, I like webrings. It's a small little community that allows you to find some really neat sites on things that interest you that may be hard to find using a regular search engine. Hopefully others will feel the same way and find us that route. I've already got a Facebook and Twitter page going to help promote the station. I have a MySpace page, but I'd rather get a dedicated one set up just for the station. Other than that, there is this blog. People love to blog and read blogs, so we might as well write one up on all the stuff about our station? Why not?

The other work I've been doing involves my radio show, "Starrfoxx's Super Radio Show". My wife and I recently finished our 6th show. Today I began work on Shows 7, 8, and 9. I'll be taking a little time with these and doing more production on them every weekend, but I won't be rushing these. I've got other projects that I need to get going for the radio station also. Two of those projects involve a brand new DJ to get started in April and a KILR FM Klassik Vault of some of the old, original shows of the station that date back to 1984 when it was called "Radio 1990".

We've got fun stuff coming!
